I will nervously be giving the lecture in Portugal this weekend!

Still feeling huge imposter syndrome, to be speaking alongside such eminent professionals from across the global scientific community

I’ll be giving a lecture on Health and Politics:

Why health is always political 💊🗞️

And we need tools in the NHS to give our patients real nutritional support, and initiatives in place to help them get stronger and be more active

Instead of jabs for life, I want my patients to be healthy, fit and strong for life.

But with 1 in 5 children growing up obese, we’re failing the next generation if we fail to address the root cause

We need our government:

- To take action on the food industry

- Nutritious meals for all in our schools

- We need to use our taxation system to make healthy food more affordable

Food advertised to kids is full of sugar and unhealthy.

Even baby food frequently contains excessive sugar and has low nutritional value.

It’s easy to blame individuals for being overweight.

And it’s easy for me as a doctor to just prescribe a jab.

We need progressive leaders in Europe to make a stand. They need to replace the funding which services globally have lost.

And they need to make a stand for reproductive rights globally.

We need action and boldness from our leaders right now. The silence we’ve had so far is deeply disappointing.

Unless this funding is replaced, 2.6 million women across the world will lose access to vital sexual and reproductive health services,

This is estimated to result in 2.4 million unintended pregnancies over the course of this administration if the funding is not replaced

Trump has reinstated the global gag order, which withdraws all US funding to any aid or health services globally if they advise or provide abortion care.

For example, MSI an international health provider, because they refused to sign the global gag, has lost $ 14 million in funding.

Of course, this is just the first step! The legislation will still need to go through the Lords. And the 60 years old Abortion Act is very much in need of updating!

But this was an important first step. A historic vote, a vote that put women and women's health first

This vote was down to the commitment of so many people, from the thousands who’ve been signing petitions, incredible journalists such as Phoebe Davis - who brought the issues to public attention
