Marking the whiteness of Appalachians as a way to safeguard the unmarkedness of the other kinds of white in the country is obviously not new but it's getting kind of Lovecraftian and I mean that both in the "they are calling us Devolved Semihumans" way and the "they hate Black people" way

It's an ideology very ripe for some analysis through Critical Race Theory, ironically
