Pinned post: I'm a 35 y/o freelance writer; started the blog Song of the Lark; am an infamous fangirl of the Minnesota Orchestra; I write a lot about women/gays in music history; I worked in social media for a while; I spill too much about grief and chronic illness; and I'm SO grateful you're here 💕

Somehow found myself on the Simple English Wikipedia entry for Tchaikovsky's first piano concerto, and more program notes should be like this tbh

I'm teaching myself how to play canasta whenever I get insomnia, which I think will help lead me to my inevitable final form of "withered 1950s crone"

This is really cool history. This bonus film of the New York Philharmonic playing Wagner was made as promo alongside the 1926 film Don Juan, which was the first movie to have synchronized music attached to it. Wild we can see this 100-year-old video performance!!

I found my new favorite quote about Chopin and George Sand last night. From biographer Frederick Niecks:

"He is so lady-like, and she is such a perfect gentleman."

I'm choosing to watch Skate America live tonight because my king Jason Brown is skating, but everyone else who is normal should watch this because my other king Benjamin Beilman is playing with my other-other king the Minnesota Orchestra
Tonight at 9pm (ET), conductor Thomas Søndergård, the Minnesota Orchestra (@minnesotaorchestra.org), and violinist Benjamin Beilman in this livestream:

Takemitsu: Night Signal
Szymanowski: Violin Concerto No. 1
Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique

I don't know why, but I find this little melancholy sliver of an etude by Marie Bigot (pianist who impressed Haydn, charmed Beethoven, taught the Mendelssohn siblings, etc.) absolutely entrancing
