This fall my mom visited my artwork, Entangled Bodies 3, at the Art Gallery of Alberta and sent me these beautiful photos. This is honestly one of my most beloved artworks I’ve made, it’s in the collection of the AGA and it meant so much to see it out of storage being shown again!
This image shows a suspended sculpture with white gallery walls behind it. A thin log hangs from a white nylon rope, cut off branches at the top, roots at the bottom. From small individual roots hang strands of human hair. It casts a dramatic shadow on the floor. The bottom of a tree is suspended over a concrete art gallery floor. Roots twist and stretch out from it. Human hair emerges from the ends of each root, hanging so as to not quite touch the floor. There is a dramatic shadow beneath it, repeating the twisted root shapes. The exhibition title in vinyl on a gallery wall reads “AGA100: Act 1, Earth to Eternity” “Earth to Eternity” is on the second line, and appears to stretch into the distance with letters getting smaller until “to” and then bigger again. “Earth” is written in brown. “Eternity” is written in blue.
