Children can read a LOT, and devour text greedily. In #OpeningWorlds by Y6, pupils read c1000 words each lesson in history, geography & RE.
How do we do this? Intentional sequencing: every single tricky word not in bold – scour, meandered, gesture... – has been taught thoroughly before in Y3, 4 or 5

Just listened to the recent podcast on Mind the Gap with @emmaturner75.bsky.social and @mrswilkinson.bsky.social about disciplinary literacy in primary. I can’t wait to take these ideas back into school this week and have preordered Shareen’s book. Would highly recommend giving this a listen 🤩
