Portland activist focusing on the Christian extremism, police brutality, and local issues.
It sounds like Michael Jordan has answers but doesn't want to say them because it makes him and the mayor look bad and would prefer power without accountability.

I jumped up and yelled, "And thank you to the butchers, the bakers, and candlestick makers!"

*I know what it's like to be critical of churches, I mean, that's a lot of what I do here on social media. I, at least, don't deny it.

"We just want to help kids..." they say as they try to integrate far-right fundamentalist extremists into each and every school learning environment. No ulterior motives, I'm sure.

One of the strategic partners is Family Policy Institute of Washington, they're a right-wing Christian Nationalist lobbyist group.

Many Christians also hate other Christians who have slightly different doctrines. The Christian Bible says, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Many Christian sects don't take this principle very seriously.

The DontMessWithOurKids folks are also in a bunch of MLM schemes and use their non-profit ministry to recruit for the for-profit businesses. They ministry building strategies and high-pressure tactics translate very well into the dietary supplement and beauty products pyramid schemes.

I aspire to stop fascism and I believe some electeds also aspire to stopping fascism. The ones that can't find the courage need us to help them, even elected leaders understand preserving their own self-interests.

They're so close to connecting the dots on this one but couldn't get there, so I'll explain. Yes, homeless people should be housed so they don't need to start fires to dry off their wet clothes when it's cold outside. The right-wing MAGAs believe poor people deserve to suffer and die.

An average of 4 church leaders who get caught each year in a denomination isn't all that much to be honest. I'm sure there are many more that didn't make it into the papers and there does appear to be a certain culture that overlooks abuse.

Good point, prevention is better than response after the fact. There are practical steps to prevent abuse - things like teaching kids autonomy and making is safe for them to disagree with adults and choose not to do things the adults want them to do.

Does the store use AI on their surveillance cameras to track the number and quality of their employees' smiles?

The church is big on cancel culture if it's a victim who won't shut-up and let it go.

Most abuse doesn't make it into a newspaper article or lawsuit, most goes unreported for various reasons.

"NBC News identified nearly 200 Assemblies of God pastors, church employees and volunteer leaders accused of sexual abuse over the past half century, based on a nationwide search of lawsuits, criminal records and news archives. Together, they allegedly abused more than 475 people"

Child abusers can be in any organization, the question is - how is the org going to respond and will they protect the victims or the abusers? Many protect abusers.

Many church people have been conditioned to be more upset that I wrote "shit" than children being abused in their churches. So it goes.
