Look at that piece of dialogue you wrote. Ask yourself if you could say it in less words, or perhaps with no words at all. Actions often speak louder, after all. You’d be amazed how much exposition you can cut with a little narrative creativity.

Explain your story to someone else. Someone you can trust. Sit down with them for a coffee and just lay out the whole thing. Give them time for questions. Ask them to be critical. Our own biases as writers can often miss the obvious problems in our work.
