The problem with forcing verification is that it quickly starts to look like censorship. But what if, rather than obligating platforms to perform any prescribed verification or moderation, instead platforms merely had to label "unverified" users and articles? Sort of a "buyer beware" label?

So, remember how credible news outlets used to clearly indicate when content was an "opinion" or "editorial" versus strictly fact-based reporting? Remember how the old Twitter "verified" badge used to actually mean something specific about how a user had been verified?
