Every time I see it I get a little hit of nostalgia

Game #29 (11/11): Ninja Gaiden Ragebound. Ninja Gaiden has a reputation for being difficult. This one doesn't quite challenge as much as the originals, but it remained a satisfying play throughout. Worth playing for any action platformer fans.

Game #28 (11/8): Parapa the Rapper. This one fared better in my memory before revisiting. Excellent soundtrack and vibe. God awful timing ruined parts of the game. I breezed through the sequel. The original tested my patience. Still respect it for all the originality it brought to the table.

Game #27 (11/5): Penny's Big Breakaway. There are moments this game is brilliant. When you hit that "flow" state, it feels so good to play. But occasional control issues pull you out of it, bringing that flow state to a stuttering halt. Fantastic or frustrating, rarely anything in between.

Game #26 (11/2): Motion Rec. It's been a great year for games, and this is no exception. Incredibly creative "hook" (record your movements, then play them back to navigate your environment). Iterates on that concept in very interesting ways. Had a great time playing through this one.

Game #25 (10/31): Final Fantasy Tactics. Started this back in April, played it on and off until I finally beat it. It took some time to get a grasp of its systems, but discovering the synergies and the power curve were deeply satisfying. The ending surprised me. Glad to finally say I've played this.

Game #24 (10/18): Hollow Knight: Silksong. A masterpiece. In a year of stand out releases, Silksong is probably my game of the year.

Game #23 (8/19): Donkey Kong Bananza. Destroying terrain never got old during the entirety of my playtime. I 100%'d it and enjoyed every second. Sometimes felt like it was rehashing the same ideas but never to the point that it was unfun. Great music and art design as well. Another standout game.

Game #22 (8/8): Öoo. One of the most brilliantly designed games I've played in a long time. Wonderfully crafted puzzle game that conveys so much with no actual dialogue. One I will definitely revisit, and one of my absolute favorites of the year - potentially my favorite overall.

Game #21 (7/16): Mainframes. Thought it would be puzzle platformer, but it was heavily tilted towards "platformer". Good game well worth the few hour run time I spent on it.

Game #20 (7/14): Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. I expected this to be better. Not that it was bad - there's a lot to like about the game, with an art style that holds up, generally solid platforming and variety. Just more of a 7/10 than the 9/10 that I thought I was going to get.

Game #19 (7/9): Deltarune (chapters 1-4). Each chapter that releases reaffirms that this game is entering “all-timer” status for me. Excellent music, hilarious sense of humor, great plot and characters…Highly recommend.

Of course, ending the day with meeting Charles Martinet deserves its own post as well.

Got some cool things at #toomanygames. The event felt like a perfect celebration of my favorite hobby. The panel with @retrogamecorps.com was a nice way to break up walking around too lol. All in all great time, look forward to returning

Game #18 (6/18): Parappa the Rapper 2. Moderate amounts of fun, big levels of character, weighed down heavily by wayyyy too much "practice" before every level. Still fun, just not a must play banger.

Game #17 (6/12): VVVVVV. One of my top 10 all time games. Easy to play through in 45 minutes for me now but never gets old.
June 18, 2025 at 11:40 PM
Game #16 (6/2): Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown. What a fresh take on the classic ninja turtles. Very fun to mix and match the loadout and find new weapon synergies. Start to finish, a great time.

Game #15 (5/29): The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Absolutely still one of the greatest games of all time. Hadn't played it in decades, yet everything still stuck with me. Simply wonderful to return to. Perfect pacing, great intrigue built in the world, good side quests. Perfect game.

Game #14 (5/14): Yakuza 0. Equal parts silly and serious, the game is packed with unforgettable moments. Look forward to playing more entries in the series.

When the drums drop out for a second then the bass starts really pumping, with the melody singing over it all, that is soooo fucking good.
May 21, 2025 at 12:37 AM
Game #13 (4/29): Star Fox. I've been playing a bigger game but didn't want a month to go by without a game being beaten. So I played this. Even with the framerate dropping to single digits, what's behind the performance issues is still extremely special.

I hope @cheekface.bsky.social will be proud of my baseball cheekface pun. If not I'm proud enough for the both of us.

Game #12 (3/26): Ascent DX.
A micro-vania without any combat, it is a single sitting game but well worth a playthrough. Easy recommend for anyone who enjoys exploration and wants a short but fun game. #gaming
