50 years ago I built this sun telescope for use with the San Francisco Sidewalk Astronomers. I even ground the parabolic mirror. I took the telescope to Glacier Pt in Yosemite; Death Valley; and the Grand Canyon. Today I took it to town to celebrate Sun Day. Lots of sun spots!

Kirk died doing what he loved best, stoking bigotry against the ~75% of Americans who are not straight white men.

He died instantly, without suffering or fear, in the full flower of his youth and ascendancy.

Humans are physically replacing other life on Earth. As we have increased in numbers and total mass, the total mass of other forms of life has decreased drastically.

Other wild mammals now make up only about 4% of all mammal "biomass."

This is obviously not how things were 50,000 years ago.

You said it.
Here they are celebrating what they've done to all of us, and, disproportionately, their own constituents.

For everyone dumping on Murkowski here is everyone who voted for disaster. The only thing that made her the "deciding vote," was hesitating.

If we somehow seceded, Putin would argue that "historically" we were part of Russia (see Fort Ross) and invade.

Trump would wave goodbye to us with a smile, only finding out later that the US Treasury was suddenly $80 billion a year short.

My grandfather took photos starting in basic training at Fort Lewis, in Washington State, in 1917 and then there's a long gap and more photos in the spring of 1918 of a trip down the Rhine, including him riding a horse off a boat.

Here is a training trench in Fort Lewis.

I think a lot of these guys are imprinted on porn stars and are possibly incapable of being attracted to ordinary women in an ordinary context.

"Imprinting" is a biological thing, like ducklings imprinting on their mother and always following her or, sometimes, on a human caretaker.
