Here in Colorado, 20% of homes have no AC, despite it hitting the 100s F / 40s C every summer, because
a) the climate used to be much more forgiving, and
b) the thin air means that it holds less heat - same reason swamp coolers work better here.
Second only to California, with 25%.

Also, contact your lawmakers and demand that they subsidize air conditioning for vulnerable people and mandate that landlords provide it - just like they do for heating.

I loathe air conditioner shaming. It’s bizarre Puritan nonsense that gets vulnerable people killed in heat waves. (Did you know a lot of people who die in heat waves HAVE AC, but never turned it on?).
