I ended up loving the characters of 13, but that is mainly in hindsight of having finished the entire trilogy.

The first game does no real favors to the main characters, especially during the critical first hours

I like XIII. X and 7R have something that 13 lacks, distractions from the main plot. The side content.

Also, 13 has a flaw in which its main plot does not move forward enough during the first half of the game, which is where a lot of people stop.

Agree with most of your list, but I would swap the n64 with the gba.

I have 6 points. My grandparents had a lot of old stuff I played around with when I was a kid

The difference is that the Switch 2 will have games. Good games. I think that's reason enough to switch

That's okay. My definition of a pc gamer is someone who primarily plays pc games, so you are one in my book.

I don't really understand why some people want all their games on ultra graphics or bust.

The ending had me in all smiles. Really felt like everything came together and tied the whole trilogy up in a nice little bow.

I'm glad I took the time to experience it all

Well anyway. I think the Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy is well worth your time and aged well over the years (except all the technical issues the ports got. It really needs a remake collection).

I hope people will give the games a chance with them separated from the discourse it generated at the time

I like the new combat system. It's weird coming from a modern perspective, but people really seem to hate the active battle system. It's so tame too; you only have the ability to move slightly around the battle screen and can time guard and attacks

Cool on paper, but my God, you really have to work on killing everything. You have to kill from 30-100 of a particular monster to extinct them. Granted, you have a much faster way to do it on the final day, but you get a limited time at the end to kill like 30ish final monsters if you do this

I think I may have spent the most time in this game due to a mechanic introduced as the "last ones". If you genocide monster species, ala Undertale-style, you get a final encounter with a souped up final enemy. Kill that one and you never see that monster again. Goodbye Cactuar.

I'd say that for getting content updates rather that than just support. For instance, Mario Kart 7 got an update at the end of 2022 to fix a gamebreaking bug and that game was released in 2012. I don't consider that retro-breaking

It would be fun to make a game that makes the story be drastically different in ng+ because you were strong enough to beat an unwinnable boss fight at the beginning

I mean, look at him! So cool!

I think the only acceptable 3+ day early is the MMO, since you get to avoid a huge queue of people. You should have seen what happened when FF14 Endwalker released.

Anything else can is unacceptable

I feel like they need redone than just remastered.

I've been playing them for the first time recently (currently on 13-2, good game btw), and they did not stand the test of time, at least the pc ports.

Even with the fan patches, they are still a bit technical mess and could use some sprucing up

I'm playing 2 for the first time right now and it is so good so far.

I encountered some takes on 13-2 online and a chunk of them feel like they were hating because it was 13.

For example, one guy online said that it was "far too late" for the game to fix anything that the og did

Like Huh?!

We are still people, after all.

There are plenty of topics we can argue about, but the difference is not being toxic

Weirdly enough, it reminds me of Crisis Core
