These words, spoken by Maine Senator Margaret Chase Smith, ring just as true 75 years later. Today, I declare it’s high time we put aside partisanship and stand up for democracy.

Trying to focus on what we do to build a new vision of democracy. What would you do? I want tax reform and for businesses to pay their share. And the whole constitution- I want that too.

I do not think words alone will be enough to stop this evil. I am hoping individual Americans will rise up for democracy. It is only hope that will make this time bearable - building something better for democracy and all Americans.

I am deeply disturbed by the growing authoritarian regime in the United States. I am reengaging in politics and convinced I must do my civic duty and peacefully protest. I am saddened by how many people in my circle and in Congress are too scared to protest.

So… this was supposed to be about Paul Revere’s ride, but the Senator just unloaded about the Trump administration and its Republican enablers. Far more newsworthy than I expected. (You can probably see me shifting to “crap, this was not the interview I prepped!” but the result was memorable.)
