In the event of a conflict between the U.S. & China, access to the Panama & Suez Canals for Chinese vessels could be restricted. Having S. Africa as a neutral port of call would enable China to sustain its maritime operations, ensuring the continued flow of soybeans & other essential raw materials.

One of the reason why S. Africa has been on the administration naughtily list is their insistent on being non-aligned vis-à-vis China. South Africa is a key bunkering (refuelling) and maintenance stop for cargo ships travelling between Brazil and China.

I can’t help but wonder if the U.S. is quietly rolling NATO’s borders back to where they were before the Berlin Wall fell, a kind of subtle pullback that might hint at a shift in how Washington sees its role on the alliance’s eastern front.

Our plan is to rerun the same AI survey every two years to gather longitudinal data on AI adoption in Canada. The next one is scheduled to drop in the spring of 2027.
