Software Engineering student, Full Stack Web Developer, and all-around tech nerd.

I'm the kind of programmer that is constantly going "Hm, I wonder if I could just automate this" in my day-to-day life.
Pinned
I'm always trying to find ways to automate stuff and then my bosses are all "This gives you an unfair advantage over the rest of the team, you can't do that." :(

That's how I knew I was in the wrong career, and when I decided to go back to school.
90% of coding meetings:
‘Can this be automated?’

The dev: That’s literally why I’m here.
If this proposal to reclassify engineering degrees as "no longer professional" is implemented, I may need to switch from SWE to CS.

"It has also been reported that engineering, a business master's, counseling or therapy, and speech pathology will not be considered "professional" either."
Full list of degrees not classed as ‘professional’ by Trump admin
Certain students may no longer receive the same loan for their studies as what counts as "professional" will determine how much they get.

So, due to an illness that knocked me out for essentially a month and a half -- I now only have approximately 2.5 months to learn Java if I want to not carry any courses with me into the following term.

Wish me luck, fam! #WGU #SWEstudent

It has been 0 days since the issue was DNS.

(Insert Homer mistakenly blaming US-EAST-1 meme here)

Microsoft: DNS outage impacts Azure and Microsoft 365 services
Microsoft is suffering an ongoing DNS outage affecting customers worldwide, preventing them from logging into company networks and accessing Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 services.

What? It was US-EAST-1 again?

Nobody could have seen that coming.

Excited to see my course material referencing PyCharm.

We meet again ...

I'd like to thank C++ for being the only conceivable reason I made 50% on my Java pre-test, considering I have never touched Java (aside from Minecraft mods) in my entire life.

How close I am to my associate's degree.

I start WGU on August 1st, then I'll be reverse transferring the rest to finish it off.

Depending on how quickly I learn Java, this means I could in fact have my degree by the end of the year.

From there, I just focus on my bridge BS/MS program at WGU!

And this is exactly why I’m on my own PDS.

If you are (rightfully) concerned about where things are going, this is exactly why you should read up on atproto.com.

Also why you should support people and projects like zeppelin.social, deer.social, @rudyfraser.com, @transrights.northsky.social, @aendra.com, @bad-example.com, and many others.

Help I can't decide if I want my Master's focus to be DevOps (which I love) or Domain-Driven Design (which I have a lot of interest in, but very little experience with)

I have time, but I need to decide because it affects what courses I take.. as I'm starting a hybrid BS/MS program at WGU on 08/01!

I just want to give Petlibro a shoutout because their latest firmware update to the water fountain fixed the only issue I had with it.

Excellent work, engineering team!

Oh and it’s on prime day discount ATM (not a sponsored link, just genuinely love the product)

Been so focused on school that I almost missed WWDC! Firing up the AppleTV today to catch up!

The irony of GitHub requiring me to PRINT my college transcript to renew my student discount because they suddenly don’t know what a PDF is 🤦

I forget if I ever posted this but my final grades for the semester posted — I did in fact finish C++ with a 4.0. 🙌

That was probably the hardest college semester of my life (at least until calculus), but *I DID IT*!!

Honestly, I’m seeing now that my difficulties with recursion are directly related to my difficulties with math.

I have reached the part in learning to code where I need to take a step back, play with Swift instead of learning new stuff, and focus on leveling up my math skills before fall semester.
May 16, 2025 at 3:30 PM
Apparently, my final is only two hours, not three.

Frak.

Thankfully, I did well enough this semester that even if I fail it, I pass the course.

That won’t help me in a real world work environment, though. I still need to master recursion and pointers. The rest of my basics are solid.
May 16, 2025 at 3:27 PM
94% on second exam.

I can officially fail the final and still pass C++.

Note to self: don’t kill myself next week studying

Will still study of course bc this is my future, but the exam ITSELF shouldn’t be a stressor.

That said, I still have a chance at an A for the course… maybe.

Nervous. Finals next week.

I'm finally getting a handle on pointers, but now they've thrown recursion at us at the last minute.

... I don't think I'm gonna master this in a week :(

TFW you open up an app you started last week going "yay i started this early so all i have to do is finish it by tonight" and it's just an empty main function and a bunch of pseudocode.

whooops.
May 1, 2025 at 10:57 PM
That awkward moment when you're halfway through writing an app and you suddenly think of a way to refactor it.

Welp, here we go.

structs in c++ feel almost TOO easy after all of that wrangling of pointers.

They're.. not unlike structs in Swift (at least at my level. differences may show up later.)
