I am here for the escapism.

Metal Garden (Steam Deck, 3.5 hours):
A world encased in metal. Puzzler and FPS, light and succinct. Abysmal checkpoints. The default combat is a little spicier than I'd like, but the exploration is rewarding. The writing and art design evoke strong feelings of solitude and intrigue.

Possessor(s) (Steam Deck, 22 hours):
Style and decay. The heart is in the parallel narratives of the characters and how they come to know each other. Fantastic sound design. Compelling color palette. Shirtless demons. Well-rounded toolset for combat and traversal. Good game.

Once Upon a Katamari (PS5, 8 hours):
Roll up all the earthly things. Make your father proud.
November 11, 2025 at 1:37 AM
Soma (PS5, 13 hours):
A horror game in both a classic and existential sense. No combat. High tension stealth. Philosophical exploration of mind and body. Claustrophobia and thalassophobia. Robots. Black blood.

Mouthwashing (Steam deck, 3 hours):
It's gruesome, but in a PS1 kind of way. The through-line of the story is weight: weight of responsibility, of expectations, of systems, of crisis, of consequences. Consequently heavy; although it did leave my mouth with a fresh taste.

Pools (Steam Deck, 2 hours):
This place almost makes sense but for its scale and... orientation. Solitary, though not as solitary as one might hope. I had to take a beat with every new tableau, every change in lighting. Daedalus had a discount on tile. I could smell the chlorine.

Hades II (Steam Deck, 106 hours):
How do I do justice? Voices, music, art, writing: everything is the highest quality. Fine-tuned progression and diverse loadout variation. NPCs notice little things you do. I was drawn forward by character stories even past the epilogue. I lost myself in it.

Crow Country (PS5, 8 hours):
A PS1 era throwback survival horror. Lock and key puzzles, creepy lighting, and surprisingly good writing. High QOL choices despite manual saving. I always felt on edge in a good way. Perfect October game.

Quote with your top four Final Fantasy games!

Uh, these are the two I finished.

The Sirena Expedition (Steam Deck, 63 minutes):
Exploring a ruined underwater facility. I liked how the linear rail-like movement was translated to the 3D environment. Nice little puzzles. Lots of eyes.
October 1, 2025 at 10:58 PM
A Butterfly (Steam Deck, 27 minutes):
I didn't process this game so much as let it wash over me. Creepy vibes to start the season.
October 1, 2025 at 12:52 AM
The Dark Queen of Mortholme (Steam Deck, 30 minutes):
Inverting the structure of a classic action-adventure. I liked the role reversal: not just the perspective, but the experience itself, as an exercise in empathy.

Trrrobiooooooo!
September 25, 2025 at 3:45 AM
OneShot (PS5, 6 hours):
The fourth wall is for cowards. You are a part of this world, and the fate of the code and everyone in it is in your hands. Choose wisely. You only get one shot.

Hollow Knight: Silksong (Switch 2, 52 hours):
Improved movement and combat from the original. Perfect writing, voices, music, environments, characters, and story. But I can't help but feel a little bitter about an excess of punishment and trolling.

September 16, 2025 at 7:09 PM
Single Drunk Female, a comedy drama show about the struggles of recovery from alcoholism, never got enough attention.
September 13, 2025 at 2:44 PM
A Little to the Left (Steam Deck, 4 hours):
Someone made a game about what it's like to be inside my head.
September 2, 2025 at 3:32 AM
Öoo (Steam Deck, 3 hours):
Bomb puzzle platforming. Satisfying. There are bits of hidden knowledge for progression, revealed incrementally. The game all ties together, structurally and narratively, neatly and delightfully.

Herdling (Switch 2, 4 hours):
I spent my journey in a reverie. Okomotive games are a mindful hardworking zen. I had constant purpose, and any respite was brief but sweeter for being well earned. Feelings of solidarity, fear, perseverance, affection, and rapture.
August 27, 2025 at 3:08 AM
No new pictures; where are you, mentally?
August 25, 2025 at 11:11 PM
Her Story (Mac, 2 hours):
A film clip database 90s murder mystery and a one woman show, so to speak. Brilliantly structured, with twists to be uncovered irrespective of chronology. I may need to go in for more.
