Top lived steps from that clinic. When his mother contracted cholera two weeks later, he bundled her into a canoe and began paddling toward a hospital eight hours away.
She died on the way there. Top turned around and came home to bury her.

We boated to an isolated community surrounded by floodwaters and met Tor Top (photo by @peterdicampo.bsky.social). There had been a World Relief health clinic treating cholera patients, funded with U.S. dollars. By March, the clinic was padlocked.
