That sidewalk used to be somewhere around here, I’m sure of it…

Many of the sidewalks in my neighborhood are still either impassable or inaccessible. I decided to be sensible rather than adventurous. I turned my attention to some soft, delicate white stuff inside in preference to the harsh, persistent white stuff outside.

Aside from a brief outing to brush off the cars (again), I determined it was in my best interest to appreciate the work of nature from this side of the window today.

This storm was forecast well in advance. Its arrival was no surprise. It's cold enough to keep the snow light. Minimal drifting, and squeaky to walk on. It started mid-morning for us.
There were some cars on the roads, but I didn't encounter any fellow pedestrians. 😂

Not yet.

Emergence
Her Narcissus bulbs are just beginning to blossom.
A sweet foretaste of a still very distant Spring.

Yesterday's sleet transitioned into clingy, wet snow overnight.
The kind that outlines every branch.
I made the first footprints on at least one sidewalk this morning.
Quiet and beautiful.

We're enduring what the meteorologists call "a wintery mix."
I went out seeking something bright to redeem a gray, drippy, dreary day.

Playful Photons
I went dashing for my camera after noticing that a shaft of afternoon sunlight had exploded into dazzling patterns when it fell on a sink fixture.
Like a silent fireworks display, it was gone only a few minutes later.

Mesmerizing
I'm sometimes spellbound watching flowing water.

Balancing Act

Gravity may be inevitable, but this remnant of a stone wall reminds me that there is power in a clear understanding of purpose.

Another take on the historic Paul's Bridge.
Thousands of cars pass over this solid, utilitarian structure oblivious to its stately construction, which only hikers, pressing through underbrush at the bank of the river, can appreciate.

Here's one final image from our New Year's getaway. We're back "home" home now. It was a lovely break, but home is pretty nice, too.

I suppose the stream this quaint footbridge spans was frozen today, but whether or not the bridge is currently necessary did not diminish its appeal.

Wolf Moon
The first full moon of 2026 was also a so-called supermoon.
I stood in the cold afternoon waiting for it to climb above the shelter on the dock.
It was a beautiful sight to behold, but my fingers and toes were sure glad to get back inside a warm house.
