A murky day, all day, beginning with sleet and only improving to a cold rain.

The crack of dawn.
The break of day.

16 crisp degrees F. The snow squeaks when you walk on it.

My neighborhood was transformed overnight

The vapor issuing from this vent on a cold morning got me to reflecting on how quickly the last days of this year are slipping away.

Sure was good, and I’m sure it was good for me, too.

Holy Night

The little angel figurine atop the crèche in our church’s sanctuary has suffered some knocks over the years but, undaunted, she’s still proclaiming good news of great joy.

Warm love to all my friends tonight, and Merry Christmas to those within that circle who hold this night as sacred.

It was kind of pleasant to walk through flurries this morning but we got no accumulation.
The sun made a laudable effort, but ultimately the clouds prevailed.

Cookie production has shifted into high gear.
I’m not the baker.
I’m the Appreciator (and sometimes the Quality Assurance Officer 😋).

The longest night.

Earlier today I notico the shadow of a candle.
I thought to myself
"That's kind of confounding, isn't it?"

Tomorrow, imperceptibly, days start to get longer.

Cold Feet

Today was a day only a duck could love.
I took this photo last week, when it was bitterly cold, but it seemed appropriate to share it today.

Sugar Coating
My weather app said it would change from snow to rain at 3am, but in fact we had persistent flurries all day long.
Temps hovered just around freezing, so it was the clingy sort of snow that outlined every twig.
Winter gets old fast, but the first snowfall is always enchanting.

My dear brother, always keen to be helpful when he visits, scaled a slender tree in our yard and used a painter's pole to knock an abandoned wasp nest down from a high branch. I, the more cautious one, documented the extraordinarily complex and beautiful remnants.
