Hydrogen alpha scan from June 27, 2025. I was able to acquire 1 scan before a spec of dust worked its way onto the SHG slit. Still the scan is good enough to show the prominences on the western limb. #solorphotography #astrophotography #spectrohelioscope #astronomy #solex #MLAstro #solarastronomy

Hydrogen alpha solar scans from June 26, 2025. Taken in Champaign, Il. Doppler scan also included. See comments below for info about the solar structures visible in the photos.

There were many prominences and filaments on the sun today, May 6, 2025. The inverse photos show them very well. Taken with the MLAstro SHG 700 (spectroheliograph) and processed with JSol'Ex and ImPPG software. From Champaign, IL. #Astronomy #Astrophotography #Solarphotography #Spectroheliograph

This is Sparky. He's gone now. I'll always remember him as the dog who was always up for a game of frisbee, no matter what the weather.

A 5/8/24 hydrogen alpha photo of solar active regions 3664/3668. These regions merged and produced an X1.0 flare peaking at 5:09 UTC and an M8.6 flare peaking at 10:03 UTC. This photo was taken at 15:11 UTC and shows a C6.7 flare (several intensely white areas left of center).

About 12 hours of data in mosaic mode, taken with a Vespera Pro from a Bortle 7 zone. I wouldn't use mosaic mode again. Too many photons wasted on enlarging the FOV, which I had to crop anyway. Live and learn.

Hydrogen alpha photos of solar active region 3848, just north of the equator on the sun's east limb. From Champaign, Illinois, on 10/02/24. All photos rotated 90 degrees clockwise for perspective. Inverted coloring gives a 3D effect to the large plasma filament.
