I think my favorite bit about the production of "Sunset Boulevard" (there are lots) is that Swanson was up for it because, unlike Clara Bow (fully retired) or Pola Negri (unwilling to play washed-up), she had transitioned to a successful career as a talk-show host & had no problem with self-parody.
