I was out delivering stuff for Food Not Bombs today, and it's occurs that it's of a piece w/putting together those early issues (which grew out of a frigging AOL forum): if there's something you think should happen, you can learn how to do it, find other people who want to do it, and do it. I think my favorite bit about the production of "Sunset Boulevard" (there are lots) is that Swanson was up for it because, unlike Clara Bow (fully retired) or Pola Negri (unwilling to play washed-up), she had transitioned to a successful career as a talk-show host & had no problem with self-parody.
