We noticed a long, dark form on the dirt road from afar. We approached to find Bluto, whose chocolate-colored blotches contrasted against a pale yellow background. He headed directly to a juniper at the road’s edge. By the time we drew our cameras, he had vanished into a burrow.

A commercial that portrays a driver who killed the rattlesnake as a hero — complete with scenes of him taping up a snake — is disgusting and unacceptable.
