🐍🎉 VICTORY: The Lake Providence Snake Rodeo is gone!

For years, snakes were slaughtered for prizes at this cruel event. But thanks to thousands of voices speaking up, Louisiana has banned these wasteful wildlife-killing contests.

We noticed a long, dark form on the dirt road from afar. We approached to find Bluto, whose chocolate-colored blotches contrasted against a pale yellow background. He headed directly to a juniper at the road’s edge. By the time we drew our cameras, he had vanished into a burrow.

Lucky for me, the neighbor lady called ASP. She found out what snakes are really like, and was delighted to have one nest at her doorstep.
