I did dip my toes into Ursula K. Le Guin a few years back, but it wasn't my speed. A bit too much exposition up front for me to buy in. I liked the concept in The Left Hand of Darkness, and found similar themes in Ann Leckie's book Ancillary Justice, which I loved.

I understand people get emotionally connected to things and ideas, but what's stopping anyone from setting up a Yahoo group to post w/ buds about novels? I've been doing it with colleagues through FB (guh, I know) for years! The month of November does not own that!
