Until they Myra that Breckinridge, don’t bother to drop the drawbridge

This sounds like hyperbole, and yet someone just pointed out to me that the current Lt Gov is running for Treasurer and the current Treasurer is running for Lt Gov… it’s more embarrassing than I imagined

It is truly puzzling to me how the two of them ended up being allied in this race, but perhaps it’s my own failure of imagination

I guess things are quiet in Oman? That’s “a” peace. 🫤

I still feel like I must not be very smart, since I cannot understand why they are doing everything in their power to tank the economy and immiserate everyone who does anything of value.

I mean, I understand superficially (grifting, narcissism, bigotry), but I don’t *get* it.

At some point we’re going to have to talk about how our Canadian Trash Pope is a bona fide hottie, and not just a guy who happens to be excellent at marrying queer pop culture to critical religious studies

There seems to be a growing acknowledgment that “immigration has stopped” overlaps with “inbound tourism has nearly stopped” and the hospitality sector has got to be pissed

My geography major included courses in cartography, religion & the built environment, and applied physical climatology. All of those courses taught me different aspects of how systems work at varying scales, and none of them predicted where I’d go with my career.

I mean: Albuquerque is about 1.25x the population of Miami and you have… this
December 10, 2025 at 4:39 AM
A friend of mine who lives there pointed out that *not only* is the city of Miami smaller than we think (roughly 440,000 people) but NOBODY votes. This is the the final tally from 2021: the number of people who voted for the winner is less than a third of the capacity of the Miami Dolphins’ stadium.

It’s not TV, it’s HBO*

*at least for distribution in the US. And HBO definitely does not fear the peen

Not yet, but — and I can’t believe I’m saying this — maybe not necessary?

In SF, there’s a “Panto in the Presidio” every year around Christmas, but the ads make it look confusing and awful (plus they’re usually drowned out by the Shen Yun onslaught).

The only reason I really know what it is, is due to My Dad Wrote a Porno discussing it on a Christmas episode.

but the show really underlines what a difficult person Carol is and one of the gags is that literally *all of humanity* is holding her at arm’s length.

Curious if you’re watching Gillian’s new series Pluribus and your thoughts there. There’s a similar theme of “desperate person going to extreme lengths for a shot at a return to normalcy”

I’m sure the director’s “track record” is important to some people, but what I saw onscreen was a Bad Movie.
December 4, 2025 at 10:02 PM
Oh good god, One Battle After Another is going to turn into this year’s Crash, isn’t it? Just a heap-ton of awards and then a decade-long vibe shift into recognition that it is a tinny, embarrassing mess

…and I gently pointed out that since they’re all over 80, they’re *older than* the Boomers, who are “only” retirement age and are going to be with us for a while longer.

We both took a good long drink after that.

Relatedly, had a fun exchange with a friend recently: He was complaining about octogenarians like Pelosi and Clyburn and Hoyer lingering around and blocking younger up-and-comers from breathing new life into Congress.

He was grousing about “all these Boomers unwilling to step aside”…

It’s amazing, it’s perfect, I love it so much I’m willing to forgive the 10,000 time jumps in episode 1 (which I assume spans like three-four years of narrative time).

Oh! There’s a chain in Vietnam called Cong Coffee and their whole shtick is that you’re in a VC hideout during the War (the baristas wear fatigues and everything)

…so depending on whether it’s fair for the premise to include a culture that refuses to make bad coffee, there’s one.
