Any of those are pretty good stories (black and white best I believe) and they all have the standard Pokémon turn based mechanics!

My friend who's a Pokémon expert says Black and White, for the DS! Personally I'm a big fan of HeartGold and SoulSilver for the DS, but that's targeted nostalgia bait for me lol.
For the Switch specifically, Sword and Shield are pretty fun!

It's fairly different to most other Pokémon games, which isn't bad! I think some of the other newer ones are a bit formulaic and this changes enough things to make it quite fresh. If you want a more traditional pokemon game for the switch the ones set in fake england aren't bad (sword and shield)

This is true! Pokémon Arceus is more of a 3d action game than most other pokemons, I will say, you run around and get in fights in real time and have to aim the pokeballs and stuff, but it's not as fiddly a 3d action game as breath of the wild is. And there's many small fat animals
