Major announcement, I've "trained" a "Lot of Language Model" in #CSS, so you no longer have to use confusing color syntax. Just describe* the color you want in plain language!** Invisible, conversational interface!***

I'll never get over how the best line in all of noir – "I've got eight slugs in me. One's lead, and the rest are bourbon" – doesn't come from Raymond Chandler or Dashiell Hammett, but Calvin and Hobbes

Styling form controls will be SO MUCH easier in the (hopefully not so far) future. @ntim.bsky.social demonstrates examples from the CSS Form Control Styling Level 1 specification draft (www.w3.org/TR/css-forms...) #cssday

should just follow @ca.rter.io’s example and have no fear of going full wota under my full legal name.

the fact that there’s open source code with explicitly copyleft licenses being used to train AI coding tools used to write proprietary code for huge corporations hurts my heart some place deep 🫠
I am an AI/LLM skeptic who also believes "information wants to be free". So while I find the IP angle often deployed others on my side of the debate a bit frustrating, AI boosters taking claim of the information freedom mantle is *at least* as incoherent. You really think these companies are anti IP

yikes…. extremely disappointed to see this on flyio
You know it’s a grift because the hard sell isn’t working, so going after people on a personal level is the next move fly.io/blog/youre-a...

If AI/LLMs were actually good, this sort of article would never show up.

The URL of this “article” is a good tell, too.

for people not familiar with Os Saltimbancos, it’s the Brazilian version of the Italian musical I Musicanti; it’s based in the tale of the Bremen musicians, turned into a communist allegory. Chico Buarque sneaked it into Brazil during the very anti-communist military dictatorship. it’s amazing.
i was like – is it botões or borbotões? why do i think it’s borbotões? is that even a word, what does it mean?

i’ve finally identified the source of my confusion. the first time i ever heard this expression was in the children’s musical Os Saltimbancos, which takes poetic license to say “borbotões”

there’s a portuguese expression, “pensando com meus botões”, literally “thinking with my buttons”, for when you’re introspecting / pondering things on your own

i never used it, bc every time i thought of using it, my brain wanted to say “borbotões” instead of “botões”, and made me very confused

thinking about WCAG Guideline 3.1 – Readable... in 3.1.3
Unusual Words, one of the sufficient techniques is "linking to definitions". would having a unusual term's definition appear on hover in a tooltip-style, rather than linking away to a definition, be "un-semantic"?

Back when I was finding my feet in tech everybody was buzzing about building positive change. Somewhere along the way, something changed. Fortunately for us though, tech is not the first industry forced to defend itself against dubious practices.

What might we learn if we were to look elsewhere?
