Behold one man and his sprouts! The essential Christmas crop has been harvested so let the festivities begin

How precocious! A good three weeks earlier than ‘normal’ this season

Shovelling well rotted manure atop a six foot high stack of the stuff, then mulching the garden with it, was a surprisingly satisfying way of starting #Wintersolstice. Holly & ivy gathered in for decorations too (after asking the plants if they minded as is only polite).

Right, just over a week to go. Must be time to watch the most perfect Christmas cartoon ever made #Christmasmovies

Why yes, I do live next door to a canal. Why do you ask? And yes, it does come with added kingfishers

This guy appears as confused as all those stores marketing us 12 days of Christmas countdowns before the big day has even arrived. Mate, it’s supposed to be a partridge, that’s definitely an oak, and you’re about 3 weeks early.

For the record, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake 3 miles from your house is rather a rude awakening and not at all what you expect when you live an otherwise geologically sleepy corner of the world www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Freeze dried roses anyone? Should have taken a video of just how satisfyingly crunchy they sound when squeezed (see also my joints after a session of shockwave therapy at the physio yesterday, though not so satisfying tbh)

Busy, busy kind of week:

1. Finally got to walk across the stage in a silly gown for degree no. 2

#LightupLancaster has been a joy once again. Loved Urban Wyld by Laura Spark & By the Light of Our Losses by Idontloveyouanymore, especially Loss no. 33 that felt so familiar I’m almost convinced past me wrote it.

Bluesky, meet Charlie, the famous feline inhabitant of Sizergh Castle. Expert at remaining aloof whilst extracting a fuss from every garden visitor. Such a legend, he’s even commemorated in a classy @nationaltrust.org.uk pin badge.

I do love it when the perfect (purrfect?) pun presents itself: here, have a Cat on a Hotbin roof. And once again, #notmycat

Can highly recommend spending some time at a reedbed watching dabbling ducks and the sun set to calm any Monday madness. Bonus points for the addition of a great white egret or two.

A swings & roundabouts kind of day.

Physio insisting I rest or she’ll have to bring out the big guns (aka shockwave therapy) so our anniversary trip is cancelled

Learning that the lovely Manx shearwater’s scientific name is Puffinus puffinus (yes I am annoyed that you can’t type that in italics)

Finally! After having hedgehog visitors for the last 9 years, providing the best quality tasty treats and water, and cleaning up their little presents from all over the patio, we've finally reached the top of the hibernating hedgehog waiting list.

I mean, I don’t not need a new hot water bottle…

Today I’ve learnt 2 very important things:

1. How to make 3D #GIS animations

and, more importantly

2. That rhubarb & custard tea exists and it’s almost as good as a huge bowl of the real thing

Is it possible the week has peaked already?

Happy start of tawny #owl season to all who celebrate 🎉

Petition to have Bohemian Rhapsody in the Last Night of the #Proms program every year. And to auction off who gets to hit the huge gong at the end. What a great way to raise funds for charity each year.

Amidst much other gloom, we lost this utter legend yesterday, at the very grand age of 17. Not my dog, but still the absolute best sausage-stealing, dishwasher-guarding, snuggle-sneaking doggy-nephew a girl could have asked for. Sweet dreams Sparcs x
