Shovelling well rotted manure atop a six foot high stack of the stuff, then mulching the garden with it, was a surprisingly satisfying way of starting #Wintersolstice. Holly & ivy gathered in for decorations too (after asking the plants if they minded as is only polite).

This guy appears as confused as all those stores marketing us 12 days of Christmas countdowns before the big day has even arrived. Mate, it’s supposed to be a partridge, that’s definitely an oak, and you’re about 3 weeks early.

Freeze dried roses anyone? Should have taken a video of just how satisfyingly crunchy they sound when squeezed (see also my joints after a session of shockwave therapy at the physio yesterday, though not so satisfying tbh)

Can highly recommend spending some time at a reedbed watching dabbling ducks and the sun set to calm any Monday madness. Bonus points for the addition of a great white egret or two.

Physio insisting I rest or she’ll have to bring out the big guns (aka shockwave therapy) so our anniversary trip is cancelled
Learning that the lovely Manx shearwater’s scientific name is Puffinus puffinus (yes I am annoyed that you can’t type that in italics)

2. That rhubarb & custard tea exists and it’s almost as good as a huge bowl of the real thing

Amidst much other gloom, we lost this utter legend yesterday, at the very grand age of 17. Not my dog, but still the absolute best sausage-stealing, dishwasher-guarding, snuggle-sneaking doggy-nephew a girl could have asked for. Sweet dreams Sparcs x
