I recently wrote up a description of the book and its argument, if you are curious about its extremely counter-intuitive argument — that Truman was perhaps the most anti-nuclear president of the 20th century: doomsdaymachines.net/p/the-most-a...

The world’s first solar plus storage power plant, 1913.

Constructed to pump water from the Nile River inland to farms. Invented first in his backyard in Philadelphia, it’s was constructed in full by Frank Shuman outside of modern day Cairo, Egypt.

A war and cheap, local oil meant its demise…

Really recommend this episode to understand how utterly dumb the current American energy policy is, but how positive the forecast is for solar specifically.
Today on Volts: the subset of cleantech known as "electrotech" -- solar, batteries, heat pumps, etc. -- is marching toward inevitable victory, not because it's low-emissions (though it is), but because it's more efficient & cheaper. I discuss the good news with @kingsmillbond.bsky.social.
Clean electrification is inevitable
Kingsmill Bond explains why the global march of "electrotech" has moved beyond the reach of US political interference.

There is only decline ahead for the combustion sector, no amount of bad policy can save it. Including expensive LNG- a truly terrible bet over electrfying faster. Great outline here, via @volts.wtf

Clean Energy accounted for all electricity growth this year. Gas/Coal were basically a wash and will be for years to come for electricity generation.

We need to ramp up batteries because they are 90% cheaper than distribution grid upgrades which is the main reason we have rate increases.

Does this leave PA with anything resembling climate policy?
Pennsylvania has withdrawn from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative as part of an overdue budget compromise signed by Gov. Josh Shapiro.

Wilson ousts Mayor Bruce Harrell after running as a progressive challenger.

Her win is a west coast companion to Mamdani’s as a statement victory for the left.

New — While some states have received SNAP benefits for November and USDA is supposedly pushing through all federal payments soon, that doesn’t erase the psychological terror of the last few weeks.

I spoke with 20+ SNAP recipients in 16 states about preparing for a possible future with no food:
The voices of SNAP
Recipients have become political pawns. They explained, in their own words, what Trump withholding funds has been like.

How's this for energy abundance? Millions of Aussies will start receiving three hours of free power each day in 2026. This is what happens when you make rooftop solar less than a buck a watt!!

"Rooftop solar installations cost about $840 (U.S.) per kilowatt of capacity before rebates." 🤯
