that’s good advice. i visited my philosophy department a bit after i graduated. when i told my professors that i was working at a used bookstore they all took on pained or wistful expressions and were genuinely happy for me. that moment has really stuck with me and helped me out over the years.

i was thinking about this post when i was climbing at the gym earlier

did my taxes, made another cup of coffee, and took a shower. now i'm going to write in my journal and walk to my gf's. tomorrow i want to wake up and have coffee together, go to the gym, grab a couple things at the store, get a dried pork bun, come home, paint, eat leftover soup, read, and write.

when i worked at the newberry, we had dozens of line a day journals from the 1800s - some days would be like “april 14. a cow broke its leg. had to shoot it. neighbor boy drowned. april 15. eldest child is wed today. april 16. freeze destroyed the crops.”

this is one of my favorite koans... thank you koth
