the cdc actually just tweeted that we should mask up because of the flu. everyone look up, are pigs flying?

their written guides for the public say human infections happen when “virus gets inhaled” or “when virus is in the air (in droplets or possibly dust)” but they don’t say “aerosols” in a guide for the public. no, they buried that word in the above guide for dairy farm workers.

so while we’re all talking about the election, the cdc just slipped into one of their h5n1 guides that it can spread via aerosols inhaled or via ocular membranes in milking parlors. surprise surprise. buckle up buttercups.

cdc guide showing how H5N1 can spread on a dairy farm. removing milking apparatus and stripping the teat create aerosols which the chart shows going into the lungs. cleaning the shed and spraying surfaces also creates aerosols. handling sick cows, teat cleaning, teat drying, germs in work area, spills on floor, and touching face are all through touching face/eyes. lastly drinking raw milk. another chart showing what PPE dairy workers should wear to reduce their risk. it says you should wear personal protective equipment when in contact with or around dairy cows, raw milk, other animals or surfaces and other items that might be contaminated with virus. ask your supervisor if you have questions about what type of PPE to wear or when or how to use it. recommended PPE may include: head cover or hair cover, safety goggles, optional face shield over the top of goggles, approved particulate respirator such as N95, coveralls that keep you dry, optional waterproof apron over the top of the coveralls, disposable gloves with optional work gloves, and boot covers or boots.
