Congrats! An R&R is a great thing to get.

Although, I still wince while reading reviewers’ comments. I don’t think that feeling will ever go away, though. 😅

I have to do this a lot, too - though, I often feel constrained by how it was asked on data collection intake forms. If we/others asked participants their sex, I leave it as that. And vice versa.

Right? And then the arbitrariness varies from person to person when assigning grades for clinical growth. It’s so challenging.

Yes, thank you. I've just been spiraling out about grading/higher ed and excited about what I'm reading.

I appreciate the call for nuance and thoughtfulness from an expert. I'm excited to learn more. ☺️

Congratulations! You've passed the hardest part of the PhD journey (imo). 🎉

Dang. Maybe I should have went to ASHA 😭

I can see that. My hunch is that students are using AI to minimize their risk of failure. And, my hope with ungrading would be to encourage an environment where students feel empowered to take risks.

Ooooh - ty! I have downloaded your dissertation, and I look forward to reading it over winter break (after I finish grading 😭).

So, with that being the reality - how can we facilitate an internal motivation to learn rather than incentivizing students to outsource their writing and thinking to ChatGPT?

Maybe #ungrading?? 🤔

Students want to become #SLPs ⤵️

Need to get into/pass grad school ⤵️

Need to get good grades in their classes ⤵️

Likely turn to AI to maximize the likelyhood of acheiving this goal (which I don’t blame them!!)

But seriously, my assignments this semester were primarily written assignments. But I’m facing a bit of a crisis of meaning: what does it mean to grade written assignments in a post-AI world?
December 13, 2024 at 2:35 AM
What do you do in these instances of students “grading” themselves too harshly or easily?
December 13, 2024 at 12:43 AM
Ironically, whenever I come across spelling or grammatical errors in my students’ writing, it makes me like their writing more. It’s at least authentic and their own. 😅

I lowkey might have just solved the 17-year research to practice gap in CSD. Visit 1 research poster = 1 ticket for the raffle
December 7, 2024 at 5:56 AM
But for real, I’m always sad I don’t win anything, but I never scan my badge to even be put in the running. 😭

We need researchers presenting posters to scan badges for these things.

True justice looks like me getting a massage AND getting a gift card. 💅

It is very important that I also receive a lululemon gift card. 🙂‍↕️
