Slop, NOT art
@slopnotart.bsky.social
Images produced with generative AI; nightmarish, pleasant but artless. Slop is not art and if you wish to add me to a moderation list I can't blame you

#ai #generative_ai #stable_diffusion #dall-e #midjourney
Please add me TO the list, as while my account is generally critical of the tech it does include sample images.

look at all those correct hands and fingers

And in case my handle isn't clear enough, images created from that model aren't art because a human didn't make them and they don't embody the thought or feeling an artwork necessarily does.

The difference here is using SD's fine grained controls as a tool while still guiding the output, as opposed to me just textually describing the character and expecting SD to do the work deciding what she should look like. SD is sadly presently alone in that capability within generative AI tools.

As a design tool, if you combine things in an engine capable of doing so (like SD) you can produce some types of useful results. This character was created from a neutral base figure, using descriptors and LoRA models to apply features like a big round nose, full lips, brown hair, green eyes, etc.

As I understand it, DDG is merely a proxy for Bing (unless that's changed).

txt2img-only tools like #DALL-E or #Midjourney while powerful in recognizing text prompts had no way to save ideas in progress for future reference (even removing the concept of seeds) and were averse to mathematical character blends like #StableDiffusion.

My initial interest in generative AI was to see whether renders of the second character "Siobhan" could be used to train a model then generate images where the prompts gave her more believable skin, eyes and hair than a PBR could manage, but DreamBooth could only replicate the original look.

I create slop and so do not mind being categorized this way, but actual artists, composers, actors, writers, et al are worthy of a less crassly mercantile collective descriptor lumping them in with factories.

You will notice I did not include YouTubers in the above.

Ironically the production error that led to Derpy Hooves is one that many systems refuse to repeat consistently.

I don't believe in putting artists out of work but on the other hand Artstation hoes who routinely produce "what if Homer Simpson but hyperrealistic" images deserve to be forced into an original concept.

Much of this was created for someone's amusement with no pretense to artistic value or even tastefulness. Most are outright shitposts and many are vulgar.

For now I'm trying to avoid obvious political bait like the kind posted automatically to Facebook.
