Build, baby, build. Former substation & transmission PM in CA, now climate & energy policy in DC. Vamos Los Doyers.
Feels like a good time to reshare this legendary tweet, that has only become more true over the years

Hey look at that! He found some evidence! 🙃

100%. Here’s my hastily sketched out load growth toolbox. What do we think??
December 19, 2024 at 6:31 PM
Man what a bummer. But the fact that we even got this close is a testament to the INCREDIBLE effort of so so many brilliant and tenacious folks. Too many to list here but wow, what an honor it was to work alongside you all! We didn’t get it done this time but we will be back.

Dominion’s latest IRP has a pretty helpful breakdown. Not as speculative as you’d think (or DC companies are just preparing to drop tens of millions in broken contracts)

It has been a BUSY week in permitting reform land. The good news: from industry to progressives to Trump, everyone agrees we gotta do something NOW. Good thing we have a bipartisan, bicameral negotiated bill ready to go!

Today is the day for EPRA folks! Get those phones out and make some calls!
December 13, 2024 at 1:41 PM
Hey 🔌💡 folks! Remember last year when the good folks at Grid Strategies crunched the numbers and found that load growth had nearly doubled, from ~0.5% to 0.9%? Remember the frenzied flurry of headlines in the NYT, WaPo, etc?

Well uh… the 2024 update is in. CAGR is now up to 3.0% 😅
December 9, 2024 at 4:51 PM
Yes but, that’s not how the tradeoff nets out. Not on a global emissions front (see attached) nor a local pollution front (see DOE/Dream.org analysis)
November 23, 2024 at 11:46 PM
Dominion said something similar in their IRP. How should we be thinking about this? Real?? Or does big tech just have so much $$$ that breaking a ESA isn’t a big deal??
November 21, 2024 at 8:56 PM
Wow that would be huge! Among its rapidly growing/similar sized peers, Indonesia’s emissions are just orders of magnitude higher. Criminally undiscussed country
November 21, 2024 at 1:01 PM
Wow the folksy metaphors keep coming! Look not to be stickler for the rules but uh, you literally do get three strikes at bat, Senator Capito… take The Bird In Hand™️ (base hit?) and swing for the fences (two in the bush?) during reconciliation!

Take 👏 The 👏 Bird 👏 In 👏 Hand #EPRA #energysky

Post a picture you took (no description) to bring some zen to the timeline

EPRA momentum continues to grow! A rolling stone gathers no moss! Keep it pushing! This is our LAST BEST chance at climate policy for the next 4 yearsssss let’s make it happen folks! 🔌💡

From the newest Ezra Klein show. Astute analysis of the outsized power single issue groups have in Democratic policymaking.

We cannot let perfect be the enemy of good just because a non profit needs to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s “acceptable” to maintain relevance.

Bank their wins now, codify leasing provisions into law (rather than just a Trump EO), clear the deck for other first 100 day priorities, still need 60 votes in the senate… actually a whole host of good reasons!
November 14, 2024 at 2:14 AM
I appreciate the sentiment, but Texas is actively disproving it. New clean IS displacing fossil without any formal attempts to “ramp it down.”

Encouraging stuff from Rs on EPRA, the hope train continues! Great reporting in Morning Energy today. #energysky

Thankfully, these techs aren’t decades away! Critical demonstration projects are taking place across the US RIGHT NOW! Sustained public and private support will be critical to getting them over the finish line this decade.

(Slides from a presentation I gave at NYCW. Happy to share the full deck)

Our grid is evolving, and with that comes new challenges & opportunities. A new asset class of technologies can help meet these temporal, geographic, and growth challenges while unlocking new economic opportunities via optimized system planning.
November 12, 2024 at 3:15 PM
Lame duck starts tomorrow, folks! That means getting EPRA over the finish line is sooo back. What, y’all thought a trifecta was going send us packing?? Both sides of the aisle understand that for the US to compete on AI + other new tech, we need a reliable & expanded grid! #energysky
