I have not seen one as yet. I have written to the MCNZ asking what their response will be to this political interference in healthcare delivery, given their primary role is to “promote good medical practice and protect the public”

Also consider writing to the Medical Council of NZ about this political interference in healthcare delivery. It’s their job to “promote good medical practice and protect the public’

You could email the Medical Council of NZ asking what they are going to do about this political interference in healthcare delivery? Given they are responsible for “promoting good medical practice and protecting the public”. I have.

It’s my position that the MCNZ needs to MAKE SOME NOISE. Because if governments are allowed to make medical policy without input from health care professionals, it’s a slippery slope downwards. What’s next? ADHD meds? Contraceptives? Refusing meds to ‘drop kicks’ (to quote Seymour) ???

Medical Council of NZ’s main role is “Whakahaumaru i te iwi whānui, whakatuarā te kounga o te tikanga rata. We protect the public and promote good medical practice.” I have emailed them tonight to ask what their actions will be regarding this political interference in the delivery of medical care.

Because this is not good medical practice ( because it ignores evidence that gender affirming care does improve outcomes) and does not protect trans youth who are members of the public just like the rest of us.

This is especially true for the junior staff, but also at more senior levels, to the very significant detriment of staff wellbeing and retention.

Extraordinary that the obvious connection between treating people well and resultant performance/wellbeing is treated like revelatory news in medicine. Regionally in my experience the MOCA appears to be treated like an aspirational goal rather than a bare minimum employment requirement.
