We’re starting an on-going thread where we will list out some of the innumerable abuses of power ICE is committing in LA and beyond.

Let this lead us all to action rather than to despair. 1/
The cruelty of these abductions of our immigrant neighbors knows no bounds. "They left all their flowers. They left all their buckets."

1/ Dear Gov. @gavinnewsom.bsky.social

We’re calling you in.

To protect democracy, we need to UPHOLD due process for all who call CA home.
We need to embrace our shared humanity.

And we shouldn’t double down on rhetoric or policies that divide, dehumanize, and pave the way for abuses.

May the spirit of rebellion grow & multiply!!

I absolutely reject the logic that comrades are ever responsible for any increased state repression. We are living in fascist time, they don't need "excuses."

Be ungovernable, maintain solidarity, & keep tactical differences internal

ICE's actions are a heinous abuse of power. We stand with David Huerta, with our siblings in the labor movement, and with every Californian abducted by ICE!
Let’s be clear: ICE injured and detained the president of SEIU California for peacefully observing.

ICE picked the wrong side. The wrong state. The wrong person. and the wrong union. David Huerta stood up. And now 750,000 SEIU workers are standing up behind him.

We are proud of President Huerta’s righteous participation as a community observer, in keeping with his long history of advocating for immigrant workers and with the highest values of our movement…

Rumeysa Ozturk was abducted by ICE in the middle of the day, as she was walking to break her Ramadan fast with friends. This is how authoritarianism looks like.

We call for the immediate release of Ms. Ozturk.

This is it. Period.

Remember:

- Immigrants in detention can be undocumented or documented immigrants, including people whose immigration status is not current, expired or is under review. The immigration detention system is fundamentally inhumane and unjust.
This is why we must fight for everyone. Whether they’ve been incarcerated or have had contact with the criminal legal system or are merely undocumented. When you accept that some people are deserving of detention and deportation the scope of who is eligible is always under threat of expanding.

UPDATE—Mahmoud's attorney says they do NOT know where he is.
They were first told he was sent to an ICE facility in Elizabeth, NJ. But when his 8-month-pregnant wife tried to visit him, she was told he's not there.
They've received reports he may be sent as far away as Louisiana.

@gavinnewsom.bsky.social so you’re ok with ICE separating families and potentially taking Californians to GUANTANAMO?

Without so much as a warrant signed by a judge?

This is a time that calls for strength and courage. 1/
Newsom is standing by California's “sanctuary” law but refuses to extend those protections to inmates.

He's vowed to veto a Dem-led bill that would limit state prison officials’ cooperation with federal immigration agents just as Trump promises mass deportations.
