If it’s a quick read you want, A Princess of Mars is the book that John Carter movie was based on. Hitchhiker’s Guide and Jurassic Park are classics for a reason.

Recommendations for the future would be Lord of Light by Zelazny and John Dies at the End by Pargin

In that case I’d say the original Sherlock Holmes short stories are light, and written in an older English prose that I find fun to read. Like a more mature version of the mystery books you’d read as a kid. Probably isn’t hard to find a collection of them.

Sometimes in RPGs, there will be games you can play against random people across the world (Gwent, the one from Horizon forbidden West etc.)

I think chess is this world’s version of that.
