If all civility means is that he didn't use slurs or shout while advocating for genocide and segregation, then civility is valueless and should be ignored.

It was only a couple months ago that we were told school funding had to be cut, and we have money for this? I don't really care how old the state and country are, I care about making sure my kids get the education they deserve

It's only an issue if you're a white supremacist.

I was trying to explain to my kids yesterday that American protests (in general) are oddly respectful to their targets. I ended up using the example of the French farmers who dumped manure on the steps of their government as a counter-example.

Probably has something to do with US policing

Hey look, the 3rd Amendment still seems to be holding up

Do you just not like movies? It's okay to not like movies.

Yep, this is who we need to hear from right now - a rich asshole who supported a rich asshole for president. Way to reach the voices missing from the discourse: rich people who own media companies

I tend to agree. I'm skeptical of the idea that journalists are required to have no opinions/not vote in order to cover news, but I do think posts like this are out of order.

The Feds threatening a citizen and their employer for speech is a much bigger problem though.

Genuinely, I wonder if Musk believes simultaneously that DOGE made massive cuts and that the published budget analyses are accurate.

Weird headspace for someone to be in, but it seems plausible to me that Musk believes his own hype but not Trump's.

I think about this problem a lot: how do we make it easier or more immediately rewarding to do something hard?

It almost feels like a game design problem in some ways, and I think we need to find the right 'achievement' system.

Does anyone actually use that palm scanner? They exist at my closest WF, but I've never seen a customer use them.

Somehow this was my lazy summer day movie in middle and high school
a man with a beard is standing in front of a group of soldiers in uniform .

Stop allowing it to be studied *and increase police funding.*

The belief that more of the right kind of training, more cops, more body armor, more weapons or whatever will fix police culture is the other half of our cultural problem.

There are 258 elected Democrats in Congress. They have sufficient personnel to talk about two things while having a group dedicated to figuring out the best way to educate the public on the fact that these are not separate things; they are linked.

Hegseth would need someone to cover for him when he's passed out at the desk. I imagine this is what that person looks like in a lot of organizations.

A global hegemon is not inevitable. At this stage, I feel like a retreat to regional hegemony is likely, with competition on the fringes.

The US is torching its own international order, and there's no single country capable of stepping in.

It'll start with removing their accomodations at school - they'll make some BS argument that autistic kids need camps/institutions/wards and that public school can't provide that, so they shouldn't be there anyway.

Then they'll go after noncompliant parents for abuse

Depending on how mad people on TV are, the tariffs range from being high and non-negotiable to being on pause for 90 days while negotiations happen.

I wish any part of that were glib, but I genuinely believe that nobody is really sure (including the people who have to enforce the tariffs).
