Trump at this point doesn't care and refuses to disavow the possibility of a recession.

Moreno isn't up for reelection for six years. By that time any downturn will certainly have passed. He should get on the same page as Trump and synchronize messaging.

They voted for Biden, didn't they?

That he overindulged in the past? Or that he's still knocking back a fifth once 5pm rolls around?

Every CEO at one point was not a CEO.

Every scientist at one point was not a scientist.

Every coder at one point was not a coder.

Etc.

FWIW the US makes some very acceptable "sparkling wines". Or whatever the non-trademarked term is.

conflicts from abroad to play out in the city streets of London or New York. That is the implied contract that immigrants sign when they come to this country and failure to live up to it is richly deserving of deportation—for the good of the rest of us.

I believe Kemi Badenoch gave a speech recently where she stressed that in a nation of immigrants it is critical that new citizens abandon any of the old hatreds they may have held prior to relocation. It is completely understandable why no one in the UK, or the US, would countenance importing

The voting public is apparently okay with it.

So far the accusations of alcoholism don't seem to be holding up.

How about a list of major car wash chain executives who didn't start out in the car wash industry?

Look, if you want to play games trying to apply more and more restrictive filters that's not really indicative of anything.

Raj Chetty has never been elected to public office either. The IRS has been letting him strolls through their databases for years.

For you and me it's a lot of money. For somebody in the entertainment biz it's chump change and probably money well spent regardless of actual guilt.

I mean the story first broke in the mass media in 2014.

I work in tech. One of the best engineers I ever met dropped out of high school.

What matters is who you grab, randomly or not.

I defer to your greater experience with adult undergarments.
January 23, 2025 at 12:56 AM
Sure, why not?

Do you really want me to run down the list of prominent political leaders who started life as bakers or engineers?

Is career choice dispositive in either direction? If you believe so then I think that says more about you and your background than the actual universe.

IIRC she was an MP in 2017, a scant 8 years ago.
January 22, 2025 at 5:51 PM
Wasn't she in the London Assembly when the scandal first broke?

I think there are jobs, such as taxi driver, where the required skill set is clearly definable. Being able to operate a motor vehicle, for example.

But for most other jobs the factors that lead some to be high achievers are far more mysterious.

Yes, and "Joe Biden needs to have his ass wiped every day" is a cogent criticism of his age related mental issues.
January 22, 2025 at 5:45 PM
In other words she could ostensibly still claim the mantle of an outside reformer because she wasn't personally in a position to do anything.
January 22, 2025 at 5:43 PM
"Where do you get these fanciful ideas? No wonder you think an orange, illiterate reality TV show character with no business sense, huge daddy issues and a penchant for treason might make a good president."

Tut tut.

Stating that you need "some" set of skills is meaningless without articulating precisely what those skills are.

Plus how is Hegseth not a generalist? He's been a professional soldier, non-profit founder, media personality, etc.
January 22, 2025 at 5:41 PM
Your criteria for what matters as "qualifications" for the job are so arbitrary as to be meaningless. Why not higher math? And here I am obviously eminently more qualified to comment than you.
January 22, 2025 at 5:40 PM
I suspect that scandals fall hardest on incumbents. To be clear I suspect Badenoch will emerge victorious eventually but why any politician or party wins is always a mix of things rather than any one thing.
