A fun fact about McCarthyism is that just two and a half years after he was condemned and censured, Sen. Joseph McCarthy drank himself to death at 48.

Fevers break. Petty tyrants fall. Censorship and persecution drive good people to stand together and fight back.
After his condemnation and censure, McCarthy continued to perform his senatorial duties for another two and a half years. His career as a major public figure, however, had been ruined. His colleagues in the Senate avoided him; his speeches on the Senate floor were delivered to a near-empty chamber or received with intentional and conspicuous displays of inattention. The press that had once recorded his every public statement now ignored him, and outside speaking engagements dwindled almost to nothing. Eisenhower, finally freed of McCarthy's political intimidation, quipped to his Cabinet that McCarthyism was now "McCarthywasm". McCarthy died in the Bethesda Naval Hospital on May 2, 1957, at the age of 48. His death certificate listed the cause of death as "Hepatitis, acute, cause unknown"; previously doctors had not reported him to be in critical condition. It was hinted in the press that he died of alcoholism (cirrhosis of the liver), an estimation that is now accepted by modern biographers. Thomas C. Reeves argues that he effectively died by suicide.

FWIW, I unfollowed that account today because they posted a fake video as real. Others informed me that they frequently share disinformation.

Red State Murder Rates With all the flack Democrats take for crime, you'd be shocked to know that the stats say otherwise, according to Third Way. The national think tank and advocacy organization conducted a study in 2023, and found that red states had significantly higher crime rates than blue states every year from 2000 to 2020. To be clear, over the course of two decades, red state's crime rates were 23% higher, and information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data reported similar outcomes from 2021 and 2022, per the outlet.

While I appreciate the context, it is exceedingly fair to vilify Republicans — and particularly Reagan, since he was essentially getting kickbacks from the board-and-care companies in exchange for pushing de-institutionalization.
By 1975 board-and-care homes had become big business in California. In Los Angeles alone, there were "approximately 11,000 ex-state-hospital patients living in board-and-care facilities." Many of these homes were owned by for-profit chains, such as Beverly Enterprises, which owned 38 homes. Many homes were regarded by their owners "solely as a business, squeezing excessive profits out of it at the expense of residents." Five members of Beverly Enterprises' board of directors had ties to Governor Reagan; the chairman was vice chairman of a Reagan fundraising dinner, and "four others were either politically active in one or both of the Reagan [gubernatorial] campaigns and/or contributed large or undisclosed sums of money to the campaign." Financial ties between the governor, who was emptying state hospitals, and business persons who were profiting from the process would also soon become apparent in other states.
