I totally forgot to post this drawing here ... I'm sorry 🥲

I'm so proud of this drawing done for a stamp rally with a Japanese theme for a con.
🎋Tanabata is the Star Festival in Japan⭐(this theme was perfect for them).

Honestly this is such a good way to look at a lot of older teen dystopian books. From an objective standpoint, they're not great books. But they do a fantastic job of validating the struggles of young people. Just because these books don't explore systemic issues doesn't mean they're not valuable
They want someone to say "your anger is justified, it's fucked up to reduce people to their:
- expendability (Hunger Games)
- attractiveness (Uglies)
- main personality trait (Divergent)
- etc"

Whereas adults have been either angry or in denial about these for a WHILE, and want a break.

For me, I first latch onto the character design. I love characters who are super expressive, where you can clearly see their personality through the creator's art. I think some great examples of artists whose OCs draw me in are @kate-fox.bsky.social and @kaiselka.bsky.social
Full disclosure: This is research for a video. Specific examples are helpful in this instance!
