Skydog is a non-profit Mustang Sanctuary in Oregon and Malibu, which rescues wild horses, burros, and reunites equine families torn apart during Bureau of Land Management roundups.
Chesney glowed a radiant orange in the evening sun, like the autumn leaves at the time of year he left us. At the 1st sign of colic, we took him straight to the vet clinic, where they treated him until he passed. When we visited him, we sensed that we were saying goodbye to this beautiful being.

Chesney liked to graze green grasses on the hills, especially after the rain. He had a special place in his heart for Boots, a naughty mini-mule, even after he knocked Chesney off his warm rolling sand to roll in it himself:

Chesney may never have known love before we saved him from a CA livestock auction, but he learned all about it at #Skydog. #Wildhorse life in #OR was not for him, he chose the warm sun and sand in #Malibu. He was stoic, independent, quiet, and happy until colic took him from us. Rest in peace.

Severe #osteoarthritis makes it impossible for Eloise to run wild with our #burro herd. But #donkeys have their size and amazing healing abilities in their favor. We’ve seen miracles with our #longears. We are keeping her comfortable as she gets lots of stall rest, love, care, and good nutrition.

These remarkable #wildhorses from different HMAs in #WY #NV #OR and #UT climb mountains daily to travel between 2 areas at #Skydog. They move more than any other #herd aside from Pete's, so they're muscled up and fit. It’s awesome to see them running back to their safety when Rogue gives the signal.

Today we are in #Sheridan #Wyoming at the #WYOfilmfest for the screening #BlueZeus. We are not far from where this #reddesert #stallion lived wild & free most of his life. An emotional weekend, but very cathartic that is shared with incredible #wildhorse advocates, who are part of the #documentary.

As Sheeps Rock glows in the setting autumn sun, we remember it was Oct 2017 when the BLM rounded up Goliath, a Salt Wells Creek #stallion, separating him from his family after 26 years free on the range. He and Red Lady, pregnant with their last foal Bodhi, were reunited at Skydog: bit.ly/42s0GV4
Herd checks across our 9000 acres in Oregon involve a lot of hiking on steep, rocky ground. It took Janelle a few days to track down Phoenix's band. You can see how far she had to go to get a good look at them before they ran away.

Wild Boy’s spirit, pride, confidence and emotional intelligence are on display beneath a stormy Oregon sky. It’s impossible to fathom how he landed in a kill pen, fighting for survival, losing half his ear in the process. He’s free today, being himself, living the life he wanted and yearned for.

Two year olds Sunny & Birch were sold for $25 each as Sale Authority (SA) at a BLM adoption event. Along with 19 other young #wildhorses, they were driven straight to a kill pen and sold for a profit to make a horse trader rich off their suffering. They are now safe at #skydogsanctuary.
