Random thoughts on naturism and our right to be ourselves. Hopefully these posts will contribute a little to normalising nudity everywhere. Stay free, Liam Beattie. 🍻
Paul Rapoport: Naturism gives you permission to be exactly who you are without apology. The moment the clothes come off, the pretending stops and you meet the real you. And everyone else sees the real you too.

The popularity - nay, the existence - of these things baffles me, but for those who enjoy them:

Nicky Hoffman: The path to body acceptance is quickly accomplished - and is fun. Since nudity is our natural state, so is body acceptance our natural state.

Isis Phoenix: Naked yoga will outlive spandex. The body remembers what the mind forgets: we were born bare.

Anonymous: Many people, especially ignorant people, want to punish you for speaking the truth, for being correct, for being you. Never apologise for being correct, or for being years ahead of your time. If you’re right and you know it, speak your mind.

Emma Richards: WNBR is pure freedom. Riding naked with everyone cheering, it’s empowering and makes you feel alive in a way nothing else does.

Ella Kopelman (on WNBR events): For the first time, I felt like a normal human being with a body like everyone else’s. Being naked somehow felt like a superpower.

Mary Jane Saunders: Shame about our bodies is a taught behaviour, not an inherent truth. Naturism teaches us to unlearn it through the simple act of being ourselves, uncovered.

Patti Smith:

I believe everything we dream
Can come to pass through our union,
We can turn the world around,
We can turn the earth's revolution.
We have the power,
People have the power.

August Strindberg: When I free my body from its clothes, from all their buttons, belts and laces, it seems to me that my soul takes a deeper, freer breath.

Liz & James Egger: Naturists don’t go naked to be seen. They go naked to feel the world directly.

Sylvia Vaught: People ask if I’m scared to be naked in public. I tell them I was scared the first time. The second time, I was free. The third time, I forgot clothes were even an option.

Carlos Ortega: A clothed person stares. A naked person smiles. That smile is the sound of fear dying.

Victoria Bateman: Nakedness forces people to confront the humanity they’d rather ignore.

You, through no fault of your own, are illegal.

To test this, go for a walk, without a sanctioned disguise, to a local shop, pub or police station.

Even if you're among the few living somewhere you're not illegal, most people you meet will think you are.

This is an extremely silly way to live.

Francesca Lynn: Standing bare in a crowd, as I did at my first festival, taught me that vulnerability is strength. The law may call it indecent but the spirit calls it freedom.
November 7, 2025 at 5:13 PM
Katherine Meehan: The right to be naked in public is a human dignity issue. No one should be forced to cover what makes them human.
November 7, 2025 at 5:11 PM
Dennis Craig Smith: Modesty concerning the body makes no sense at all. Feeling shame about what you have when everyone has one as well is an affront to logic, common sense and the human struggle to understand ourselves.
November 7, 2025 at 9:48 AM
Mira Solis (on WNBR events): The second I ditched my shorts at the starting line, something clicked ... The crowd’s cheers weren’t mocking; they were celebrating. I’ve never felt so seen and so unashamed in my life.

Victoria Bateman: I want to show that behind every naked woman is a real thinking woman. It’s not just about me. I want to show that behind every body is a brain.

Jessa Lingel: The WNBR is this incredible mix of vulnerability and power. You’re naked in the city, yet you feel invincible, surrounded by others who believe in the same freedom. It’s a high like no other.

Osho: Existence wants you to be you.

Mark Twain: Indecency, vulgarity, obscenity - these are strictly confined to man; he invented them. Among the higher animals, there is no trace of them. They hide nothing. They are not ashamed.

Stella Maxwell: I'm totally comfortable with nudity. It's not about being sexy. It's about being real and owning every part of yourself without shame.
