I just play Street Fighter and lil games from back when
NG4, cont. UT's are nerfed in this game, which actually makes them feel more engaging this time around. Still accompanied by i-frames, but you won't get several instant kills off of them. The game plays like a dream, a really smoooove dream. Wish there was more of it, but can't wait for the DLC.

NG4, cont. Now time for the great. Yakumo is fun as shit to play as. Every weapon is fun for its own reasons. Blood raven form kicks ass and opens up so many options. In-fight movement is as smooth as ever, homing flips, enemy step, shuriken cancels on every weapon.

NG4, cont. Gleam form contains the function of Yakumo's blood raven form, without the extra engagement of summoning an entirely separate weapon. I miss directional and on-landing moves, but the current gameplay design ~mostly~ makes up for their absence. Platforming/movement is 'press R2' slop.

#31: Ninja Gaiden 4. I love this game, let's start with the negatives. The dialogue and cutscenes are fucking terrible, with no option to mute chatter. Why aren't we just making sick scenes with cool fiends and fights? Ryu also only has the dragon sword, and gleam form isn't really all that engaging

#30: Ball X Pit. I have always loved breakout and I will never be silenced! Ok, so this isn't really breakout but it's close enough and I love the little guys (and combination of little guys) you play as, and the ball types are really fun. Cute art too. Just one more run.

#29: Toree Saturn. Toree evolved baby! Still incredibly short, but expanded mechanics make this the best version of 3D sonic-style platformers I've played. Really want an expanded version of this, but I'm glad we have what we have. Thank the Toree god!

#27/28: Toree 3D/Toree 2. Omg yayyy. I love this little guy and his fast ass run. Cute platformers you can finish in an hour. Highly recommend if you want something bright, fun, and cheerful.

#26: Bullet Witch. Ok, it's kusoge, but I know it could work if you let me force 10 people in a room to tweak it. Give me a million dollars and we're cranking out the coolest remake ever conceived. Definitely played as a curiosity but sometimes that's just how it's gotta be.

#25: Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom. Fucking incredible. Making such a strange movement system so fun is a feat. Love the art direction, level design, gameplay design. Firing on all cylinders and never letting up. Favorite 3D platformer at this point??? Maybe!!!

#24: Hades. Finally took the time to play Hades all the way through the story. Really glad I did, great weapons, upgrades, and enemy design. I liked the idea of the side stories a lot, but the requirements were either esoteric or simply didn't trigger for the ones I was interested in. Still great

#23: Warriors Abyss: Had a real musou hankering in the back half of this year. Tons of unique characters, but certainly the least developed roguelike I've played in terms of encounter design. Somewhat expected. Fun to just do a 30 minute run with a random character. Good enough for what I paid!

#22: Rise of the Ronin. Assassin's Creed game where movement actually felt good and the combat was the forefront. Open world with great env design (the level design can suffer), but the combat design is so solid it kept me hooked. Also it let me have a boyfriend who said he'd take me to America.

#21: Shinobi|Art of Vengeance. This game feels so good to play. The platforming they ask you to do can be pretty difficult and interesting, but I wish there was a harder combat mode. The combat is fun and fluid as all get out but if you're used to systems like this it will be a breeze. Still great!!

#20: Ninja Gaiden | Ragebound. Mixed on this. The game relies on 3 mechanics. Two are fun, but one I think hurts the flow of the game. Maybe I got insane at the game it wouldn't. The final boss was great, but normal bosses and stages were ~good~. Will probably revisit, it's short as hell.

#19: Onimusha|Dawn of Dreams. Quite different from the others. I'm down with what this game offers, stage based progression and multiple characters with completely different gameplay styles. Opening up access to characters feels a little slow and some BS fights, but I'm not mad at the whole package

#18: Clair Obscur. She was a little long in the tooth but I liked it. Some fun mechanics, some funny builds. The French pumped out a nice one. Lune my goat

#17: Onimusha 3 (PS2). Shheeeeeee!!!! Oh hell yeah, best one so far. Better level design, more unique combat. French man and Japanese warrior team up across time to beat up an old man. Jacques x Samanosuke 4evr

#16: Onimusha 2 (PS2). Right away not as good as the first in some important ways. Level design is very straightforward and they essentially removed puzzles. Combat is still great, and the addition of allies you can fight with, as, and give gifts to there's definitely fun to be had.

#15: Castlevania ~Curse of Darkness~. Level design is mostly hallways and combat encounters. Different combat system that would definitely work better for a shorter game. Still, it's nice to have multiple weapon types, a simple crafting system, and some devil buddies to roam around with. Liked it.
June 11, 2025 at 9:51 PM
#14: Castlevania ~Lament of Innocence~. Ok work. The combat is designed so well for what it asks you to do. Branching combos and a freeflow cancel system really kept me locked in. You can jump cancel any attack, and immediately use a kick to return to the ground (that you never left). 🔥🔥🔥

#13: Shadow Hearts (PS2): I love this game!!! The combat tactics are not particularly engaging (or disengaging), but the ring system makes every turn fun. The story is dark, and I love the characters. A witchy atmosphere in the very early 1900s really makes it a unique setting for JRPGs.
June 11, 2025 at 9:41 PM
#12: Devil May Cry 2 (PS2): Played through both Dante and Lucia modes. Don't kill me but I like it more than the first game overall. Are the guns dumb as shit? Yes. But the combat feels fluid and fun. Also great vibes.

#11: Devil May Cry (PS2). Look, it's alright and a good start to a series. Some fun combat, but also some fucking esoteric ass interactions. Doesn't feel as ~interactive~ as I'd hope. Great vibe.

#10: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. First Castlevania I've ever finished. Pretty mother. Bangin soundtrack, art, and movement. Let's just say I am the wind, I am the sun, soon one day we'll all be one. This also took me longer than your average gamer...

#9: Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time. Soleil my budget game kings!!! They will never make me hate you. That being said, the game is pretty sparse from an environment perspective. They have a great core combat system but enemy design is bootycheeks. Maybe I need to play it again on a harder mode.
