One of America's greatest powers is the ability to take any other country's solemn holiday and turn it into a drunken carousal. St. Pats used to be a somber church holiday in Ireland: not anymore!
Well, Germany has it over us with Oktoberfest, but it is now a well-loved month-long event here!

Honestly confused by it all, is where. I have no idea what causes people to flip their lids & go off in crowded airplanes, punching people & trying to open the exit doors & such.
Booze is a factor, but not every time. Fear of flying? Overall stress? general psychosis? No idea.

During the last admin the Trumpists who were building the border wall were yelled at in public by angry citizens --ALWAYS in Mexican restaurants. And where did Ted Cruz go to duck out of a disaster in Texas?

The term that keeps coming up is "unserious." More I think about it, the truer this is. These are deeply unserious people. Everything they do and say is superficial, performative and thoughtless, as if it will all vanish during some unseen commercial break.

I think if people did not dress like slobs on planes we'd see an uptick in civility. Dress like a slob, act like a slob: there's a link.
However, you're also right: there is agentic shift here. Airlines share the blame for getting people's blood boiling. Airplane rage attacks have many causes...

"Um, you okay there, Skipper?"

Yes. I have a theory the Mexican government fooled Americans into making May 5 (commemorating the Battle of Puebla in 1862) the big Mexican-themed drinking holiday here so we would leave their actual independence day alone

If anything, a bunch of ICE agents driving around with a 12-pack in their car is yet another indicator of a serious morale problem. Hey, if you need to elevate your mood with alcohol on the job...

Trump ghouls who obsessed with the border and deportations are also obsessed with Mexican food and beer. I guess they're always thinking about it...

One of the hardest things I have had to reconcile over the last 10 years is Trump will never, ever be held accountable for anything in a serious way. He is a remorseless sociopath who has spent his ENTIRE LIFE evading consequences: he is really good at it
November 24, 2025 at 9:47 PM
Shit, a lot of these Trump ghouls are already half-way to the ICC in The Hague for blowing up fishing boats. Add "We're invading a country for cheap oil" and they're full-on war criminals.

This is brilliant. "Take THAT, Christopher Wren!"

I mean, I get it: Civility is the ability to behave in a polite manner in public.
We're used to attacking this clown but "It's Thanksgiving air travel season: maybe not dressing like a slob means you won't act like a slob" as a way to prevent rage incidents... is better than nothing.

A perfect example of the adage "Everything Trump Touches, Dies."
Lindsey Halligan jumped into these cases with both feet to please her boss. Now she's likely out at the WH, and stands a good chance of being disbarred too.

This is true but the reasoning is backwards: No respectable DOJ lawyer would take up the case 'cos it was clearly illegal or a real loser or both. So he drafted one of his loyal idiots.
He only cares about loyalty: competence is not even considered.

Calling it a "treaty proposal" when one of the combatant nations was not actually included in it's negotiation isn't a treaty proposal, it's the terms for surrender.
November 21, 2025 at 8:38 PM
What sector of the American public actually wants this to happen? I think even home-school advocates rely on the DoE to some extent.
The only entity I can think of who wants this are the ghouls behind Project 2025.
November 21, 2025 at 7:50 PM
Not sure what Mike's denomination, but he sounds like an old-school Catholic who has mistaken Trump for the Pope and believes him to be infallible and his words those of God himself.
November 21, 2025 at 6:49 PM
Trump really, really wants to create a peace treaty with no pesky input from NATO and especially not from Ukraine. It reads like terms for surrender.

Well, maybe not HER, but hopefully some of your fellow Dems are working on convincing GOP moderates with poor mid-term election chances to switch parties.
Waiting a full year to regain Congress may be too late to save democracy. The time to stop authoritarianism is NOW.
