the #code4lib community has been helpful to share tips & software setups; but long-term, I don't know to solve it; for some scrapers, it's a cat & mouse game as UNC shares.

UNC's wrote a thorough piece on all that they've done journal.code4lib.org/articles/18489 ... *knock on wood* in my experience, some of scrapers are clearly labeled for AI purposes (chatgpt, anthropic, & largest IME, bytedance (owner of Tiktok), (user agents), many are not labelled. 2/?

great project! some ideas for individual performances: triple-double, player's pt/Reb/block or ast is remarkably higher higher than career avg (will require tweaking w/ stats, std dev); if FG% is >50% & FGA>10; or if a value is a career high (this may be CPU intense?) (weighted by players yr exp)

if I were running a @maptime.bsky.social chapter again, I don't think there's any affordable (let's say less than $50/mo) online service (For making quick web maps) that I'd encourage people to try out; maybe mapbox?

the new operator of WCSB is the local Cleveland NPR affiliate, not a private company, although the move is still extremely disappointing and rude

Researchers and journalists who want to experiment with using AI to analyze public records for the public good are dependent on private companies who have an incentive to gatekeep that information for their own profit.

Example: there's so much you could do with public meetings posted to YouTube, but anyone who wants to download videos en masse is totally dependent on YT's API -- whose terms of use can be rescinded or changed at any time.
