The new conservative mayor of Baton Rouge's scheme to use a budget deficit as an excuse to cut library funding is going down

I gotta say I don't think these signs are going to get through to voters who have no idea what Prop 1 or the Housing Trust Fund are. Most probably won't know if the sign wants them to vote for or against housing

Jail, probably

Ask any local politician about housing policy and they will emphasize moving people from renting to homeownership as their top goal. But really that is just moving people from "severely cost burdened" status to "house poor" www.nola.com/news/busines...

"We will give you money to avoid furloughs if you hand the payroll over to a guy who wants you to do furloughs" sounds like a shitty deal to me. But I guess I am not an elected mayor or councilperson whose only goal is to get these problems off of my desk. www.nola.com/news/new-orl...

Of course she welcomes it. It means she gets to do the budget austerity her closest backers want to do anyway. But now they get to blame some outside force for making them do it.

The constant threat of a fiscal administrator is just as bad as an actual fiscal administrator. Will mean the same austerity policies get implemented. But technically will be implemented by the elected mayor and council

I am shocked at how much I do not agree with any of this sentiment. To me, it's exactly the same sort of thinking as Hakeem Jeffries saying the Dems will win back Congress because of health care costs. Everyone wants to profit from suffering these days. And, no. Nothing good will come from suffering

Hope everyone enjoyed their 2 days of winter. See you next year

Right. You can't "resolve" inherent class conflict. You have to pick a fucking side. www.nola.com/news/busines...

I'm envisioning checks going out to every business who paid a tariff. The consumers they passed it on to, though... well... www.npr.org/2025/11/05/n...

What this tells me is Moreno plans to give the state some power to dictate austerity policies during her administration which she can then claim aren't her fault
