Haha, great. Next stop Sp*tify makes a play for the publishing of all the songs with uncleared samples now they’ve got a massive list of what they all are. I preferred learning about sample use from a neon pink Geocities page anyway.

there was an argument to be made - I didn't agree with it but it was out there - that whosampled was just a music lovers' database fueled by nerdery and interest in sampling culture (despite the fact that it absolutely did lead to legal actions) but now... nah man, you're fully the opps

turns out my dad was pretty good at it (he had wooden ones and used them to play Irish folk with my mom and their friends in early 70s Berkeley)

just saw a relatively successful legacy artist’s ad for merch with AI models and… thing is it’s not even necessary. he could probably get real live humans to model the merch for plus ones to the next gig.
