Just been discussing that on X with another W Sussex resident.

Here's part of my reply (discussing the hospital stats for October)

And it looks like there's yet another rebound on Teesside, this time not only in Stockton-on-Tees and Hartlepool, but also in Middlesborough and Durham.

There's a similarly persistent patch around South Yorkshire, with Doncaster the highest.

That patch likely extends further west looking at Rochdale, Bolton, and Tameside.

Hospital stats out today confirm that exceptionally high spike in Sheffield mid-October.

West Sussex is very much still in the thick of it, and that likely applies to East Sussex and Brighton too, who aren't reporting.

As predicted, London is seeing higher levels than most, having escaped the worst of this wave during the last couple of months.

Poor reporting in commuter belt areas, but it's notable that Medway and Thurrock have rebounds.

In England, it's Worcestershire, though there's a definite band of higher levels remaining from Herefordshire to Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire.

Gloucestershire and Wiltshire are also elevated.

With most areas not far from the average, it's very easy to see the outliers, all of which are having trouble with rebounding levels.

In Scotland the outlier is East Lothian.

The PCR positivity map is out, and national positivity across England has nudged downwards a little further to 5%. In Scotland it's 4.05%.

Adjusted for non-reporting areas, we make the English average 6.50%.

And there is a very clear rebound along much of the south coast, particularly in West Sussex, but also in Portsmouth, Dorset, and Devon.

London has looked to be behind this wave throughout, and what reporting there is indicates a sting in the tail of the wave.

I suspect outbreaks will continue piecemeal for some time across the city.

Levels are still high in Worcestershire and Gloucestershire.

But they have declined in Dudley, as across the Midlands, and I hope Worcs. and Gloucs. are to follow.

Barnsley and Rotherham are struggling, too.

Hull is the outlier, in black on the map, but something has gone very wonky with their reporting - I can't tell if this is indicative.

The East Riding's reporting is not good either, but it's enough to suspect a swell.

The average for Scotland is declining in most areas, as it is in England.

But that's not the case everywhere.

Teesside and Cumbria look to be having another - though smaller - rebound.

The highest rates in Scotland at the moment are in Highland and Na h-Eileanan Siar, with Angus, East Lothian and Midlothian a little lower.

The testing & reporting is solid.

Worth remembering that Scotland also has wastewater monitoring by LA.

We're grateful to Public Health Scotland's data analytics team, who looked at the map, understood its value, and willingly worked with us.

They went above and beyond in producing a bespoke dataset just for the map.

If it's of value to you, please do thank @publichealthscot.bsky.social

You'll see we've also included the Scotland total average.

Unlike England, this is not adjusted for non-reporting - my experience with the Scottish data tells me it won't necessary (I'll keep an eye on it).

The Scottish data is also more recent, running up to 4 days ago, i.e. last Sunday.

When you click on a Scottish local area, there is no trendline, as the data is delivered as a weekly total.

You can check the underlying data in the same way as England: by clicking on the name of the area in the pop-up bubble.

The PCR positivity map is out, and you might notice something a bit different this week.

From now onwards the map includes Scotland, using the same metric: PCR test positivity.

There's a little more to do until we have Scotland on the map too.

It should be ready for next week's release.

Meanwhile, here's the PCR positivity percentage for each Scottish LA as of four days ago.

Still some very high & climbing levels in South Yorkshire: Doncaster and Barnsley particularly.

Sheffield & Rotherham still look volatile.

Further north, Bradford & North Yorkshire appear to be rebounding upwards.

Levels have calmed in the Midlands, but not yet in Shropshire, nor in Dudley or Sandwell.

Leicester and Wolverhampton are also rebounding, but from much lower levels.

London too looked like it was behind the curve in this wave, and anecdotal reports have suggested a recent increase.

Lots of poor or non-reporting in London but what there is backs that up.

The Isle of Wight sorted out its testing & reporting issues recently.

It seems to be behind the curve: still bouncing up and down around 20%.

The PCR positivity map is out, and there's been a more substantial drop in national positivity this week.

UKHSA report 8%.

Adjusted for non-reporting areas we make it 9.14%.
