adashima vol 10: beautiful devastation. Shimamura embraces pain she'd kept at arms length and lets a friendship crumble. It's such a massive mark of growth for someone usually content to go with the flow.

Outside the context of AdaShima, it's like, "wow what a tragic story," but within, Enome's story is love guided by the hands of destiny just as much as the titular characters' story

Because of her, Hino Akira and Nagafuji can idyllicly bridge social classes.

At vol 9 at least, you can only really understand the relationship between Enome and Hino Akira's mother through the lens of Adachi. That fierce devotion. Her need for nothing other than Shimamura.

Then you can imagine why Enome would serve her ex-lesbian lover's prominent family and husband.

My view of relationships was so narrow before I read AdaShima. "Love is romantic. If you aren't desired, you aren't loved. If you aren't a lover, you're a friend, which is a step down from lover."

Hino, Nagafuji, and Enome, the servant, revealed new possibilities to me.

The prose had been fantastic up to this point, but vol 6 was inspired. I couldn't help but notice the change of language from "opposite-sex couples" in prev volumes to "straight couples" during the festival.

I felt my brain chemistry changing along with Adachi and Shimamura thanks to this script
